Booking a Maternity Photoshoot

How does a maternity shoot work?

I recommend having a maternity shoot when you’re around 32-34 weeks pregnant, every mama is different though so if you feel that your bump is already a good size, you can totally have a shoot from around 28 weeks.

During my sessions I have a lot of clients who like to bring the rest of the family, partners and/or older children and I also have lots of clients who come on their own. This is totally up to you as a individual, if you’re partner is bit camera shy then by all means come along by yourself, I take very good care of you throughout the experience and you’ll love posing for the camera without worrying about how your partner maybe feeling.

I love all types of maternity sessions, whether with an energetic toddler, with just your partner or simply mama by themselves. They all have such different feels to the session, this is why I totally love what I do!!

I love the idea of a maternity shoot but I’m really nervous

Nerves are totally normal when it comes to having a maternity photoshoot, your body has been changing so much over the last few months and hormones play a huge part in how you’re feeling about your body. Body confidence is a huge part of a maternity shoot, I want you to leave the session feeling empowered and in love with your new shape and the beautiful baby you are creating!!

I’ve also seen every body concern going, from hormonal acne to stretch marks in all shapes and sizes.

In terms of styling I am totally led by each individual mama, some would love to have bump on show and others much prefer the thought of staying covered up. The studio wardrobe is filled with so many options that are available with each method of styling, the great thing about the styling is that there’s really no right or wrong! We always aim to get a good variety in the session with different ‘looks’ then after the shoot itself you get to decide on which are your favourites, these can end up being a totally different look to what you thought you would like.

Can I bring my own outfits?

I have a full studio wardrobe available for use during any of my photoshoots, theres a mixture of dresses, cover ups, gowns and trousers/skirts. Feel free to look through the options before hand or we can simply go through them on the day of your shoot.

By all means bring along any of your own outfits, I love each individual persons sense of style, for me it really helps to mix up all my sessions and I get great ideas from new wardrobe pieces.

We can also mix it up with items from the studio wardrobe which is always growing!

I have no idea how to pose, will you guide me on the day?

Yes absolutely, my style of maternity shoots are very natural so I will guide you throughout the session but I always encourage a mixture of subtle movements from you within each pose, these are what really helps to keep you looking like you without too much of a static position.

What if my toddler is not interested in being part of the photos?

Every toddler is wired totally differently, this is part of why I love photographing children and will never see it as a hinderance when your toddler simply want to do what they want to do.

Don’t ever feel worried about this causing any problems, I’ll try my best to guide them into certain positions with games, cuddles or a few bribes and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how we manage to achieve the final shots.

Can I bring my kids and partner to half the shoot but have the other half on my own?

100% there’s nothing better than having a great mix within the session, if you feel your little one is getting tired or you’d like to go for more nude shots without the older children around. There are a few local parks from the studio that they can wander to and come back when we’re all finished.

Do you recommend applying fake tan before the shoot?

Yes I would always recommend fake tan, it doesn’t need to be heavy and it really helps even out skin tone for a more undressed maternity session.

Do you offer airbrushing to the final photos?

Yes with my way of working, I edit the photos very softly before you view them. After viewing the images and placing your order I go over the images in far more detail in terms of skin smoothing.

I am able to remove any unwanted tattoos, stretch marks and/or acne. Simply let me know what requests you may have and I’ll make sure these get adjusted within the final order process.

I’m not keen on my photos being shared on social media or website. Am I ok to keep these private?

Yes I take everyone’s opinions on what they’re happy with sharing/not sharing very seriously. I regularly get asked to keep clients photos private, I only share images that clients have specifically said I can do so.

I love the thought of creating certain shots that I have seen, can you help me with that?

As long as the shots that you have found work with my signature, natural style then yes I am more than happy to take inspiration from them. It’s also helpful if there are any shots of my own work that you want to re-create. When I get you all booked in I’ll send over a questionnaire for you to fill in with details of what you may/may not want to create during the shoot.

How do I book?

I have a few package options available for each of my photoshoot sessions, I also offer discounts when booking both a maternity and a newborn session. My Saturdays get booked up extremely quickly so it’s always a good idea to get booked in sooner rather than later.

To book any of my packages I require a £50 deposit, then balance is due on the day of the shoot.
